Our Programs

Playful Cruisers

This free playgroup meets in the WE CARE Family Resource Center on a scheduled basis throughout the year. At a time when the world is changing quickly this activity is essentially a Ninety Minute Neighborhood experience for parents and preschoolers to gather to play, talk and enjoy. The program is led by the parent directors in of the Family Resource Center and offers free play for the children, a craft activity for parent and child, a healthy snack, story time and songs in a safe environment.
PLAYFUL CRUISERS meets on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday in the WECARE Family Resource Center at 6 Fairfield Blvd. located in the Youth and Social Services Department. The sessions begin at 9:30 am and run to 11:00 am. Parents/caregivers must accompany each child.

Bebes Activos

A free bilingual playgroup is offered for families in the Spanish community on a weekly basis at several locations. Following the same format at Playful Cruisers parents join their preschool children in the activities. Conversations, stories and songs all take place in both English and Spanish with the group being led by parent leaders from the local Spanish community. BEBES ACTIVOS meet every Thursday from 12:30 pm to 2:00 pm at several locations noted on the calendar below. This bilingual program is conducted in English and Spanish. Adults must participate with children at each session.

Workshops

Workshops provide both parents and preschool teachers with information that focuses on the development and education from birth to 5. Each session features a topic that has been suggested by the audience. The sessions are held usually in the early evening in a convenient location in town. Most of the workshops begin with a light supper. Topics range from toilet training to technology and from music to language development.
The Education Committee of the Board of Directors is in the process of planning the topics for the next round of Workshops for Spring 2017. Watch for updates right after the first of the new year.

Family Playdates

In this busy world it is necessary to make a date to stop and play! WE CARE has arranged for Saturday morning playdates where children and parents come to enjoy programs offered by the Mystic Aquarium, My Music Room of Wallingford and Playtivity-a rhythm and movement group. These playdates are offered various times throughout the year and will be posted on our Facebook page and our calendar when scheduled.

BackPacks for PreK

WE CARE in conjunction with the Wallingford Compensatory Education Program provides a special welcome for incoming 4-yr olds into the PreK Program each June. The PreK program is offered at all four elementary schools: Cook Hill, EC Stevens, Highland and Moses Y Beach, and offers a special early education preparation for pre-kindergarten children. After being screened for the program by the teaching staff (in both English and Spanish) children are selected for the classes. WE CARE sponsors a Welcome Tour of the three school sites for the children and parents in June presenting them with a backpack. The backpacks are filled with a message from each PreK teacher providing information for the parents on how best to work with their child during the summer to get them ready for class in late August. WE CARE provides a storybook, coloring book/crayons, scissors for the parent and child to enjoy together. A special photo album of the people and places in the school is included so that the children will get to see the friendly faces waiting for them when school begins.
Pre K Information Fair: Every January WECARE and the Wallingford Public Library team up with all the licensed child care centers to present the many options available for families seeking childcare services (from birth to 5 years). Each child care center provides staff to discuss their unique services to help parents choose the right setting for their children. The 2017 Fair will be held Saturday, January 28, 2017 ( snow date Feb 11) from 10:00 am to Noon in the Community Room, 200 North Main Street.
